I read Mike Doogan's LOST ANGEL, featuring his P.I. Nik Kane and set in Alaska. Kane is an ex-cop who went to prison for a "bad shoot". In this outing he's investigating the disappearance of the daughter of a local religious cult leader. The tone is probably more medium-boiled and an enjoyable outing.
