Re: RARA-AVIS: Raoul Whitfield's Green Ice

It has been a while since I reread Green Ice, but the last time I did I liked it well enough to include it among my top 10 noir novels of all time.

As to Fast One, the last time I tried it I couldn't get through it. The writing is indigestible. This has nothing to do with hardboiledness, by the way; Hammeett, Whitfield, Hemingway, Higgins and many other writers have managed a staccato ultrahardboiled style without losing the reader. Actually, Higgins can come close to losing him or her or me or you or us or them.
