For the record, Dave's Vampire Crimes is nothing like Huston's Joe Pitt novels. They're both very good, but in different veins (yes, pun intended). Huston's series (reading the latest right now) is essentially a PI series, with Pitt as the independent investigator who won't buckle down to authority; they hire him because they need someone outside their bureaucracy to do a job, but can't reign him in when the job expands. Dave's book, which I hope will one day be a series, at least starts as a couple on the run book, where a down on the luck couple just want to be left alone to work their petty scams, but of course sinister forces are after them. The thing they both have in common is that their protagonists are down and dirty street level vampires, not the elegant ones of tween dreams, Near Dark not Twilight (at least the impression I have of Twilight).
