I've had similar troubles with other books. A while back when Bill Crider mentioned that Faulkner's SANCTUARY had some hilarious parts in it, I couldn't remember anything funny about it until he brought up the funeral scene. My only explanation is that an overall dark and depressing atmosphere must cloud the humor for me.
