Actually, it's "L. A. Confidential" where Buzz meets his
demise in the first chapter. Are you thinking perhaps of "The
Big Nowhere" the previous book in the quartet in which Buzz
is featured? Btw, didn't care much for Brown's Requiem
either, but a movie was made recently of it too starring
Michael Rooker. Nothing to write home about as I
remember.
