You're right. It was for *The Invader* in 1972. The first few years
there was a "Best Paperback" category, Gold Medal seemed to own the
field winning in 1969 (for Scott C.S. Stone's *The Dragon's Eye*), in
1970 (for Dan J. Marlowe's *Flashpoint*), in 1972 (for the
aforementioned *The Invader*), and 1973 (fro Roy Winsor's *The Corpse
