RARA-AVIS: first posting

Hello. I have just signed on and have been lurking for a few days. I just
wanted to introduce myself. I am a public librarian by day, and by night I
operate P. I. E. S. (Private Investigator Entertainment Service). This is
a mail order catalogue of the private eye. Anyone interested in getting
the catalogue can e-mail me (direct) their desire at piesbook@execpc.com.
Catalogue #27 will be out soon covering authors from Michael Collins to A.
A. Fair.

I just got back from Left Coast Crime Conference in Seattle. It was a
sparsely attended conference that left a lot of time to interact with the
few folks who were there. Lawrence Block, Jeremiah Healy (Hi--Jeremiah),
and Gary Phillips were some of the highlights. Andi Schecter, who chaired
LCCC, is thinking about doing an Eyecon in 1999.

I chaired the first (and so far the only) Eyecon, and I think Andi will do
a fine job in continuing the conference. I still mourn the loss of the
Indy Eyecon scheduled for this year.

Speaking of chairing things, I am the co-chair of Bouchercon'99 in
Milwaukee with my good friend Ted Hertel. Besides sharing this experience,
Hertel and Niebuhr appeared at the very end of Invasion of Privacy by
Jeremiah Healy as two spitting officers of the law (thanks--Jeremiah).
Anyone interested in getting registration information for Bouchercon'99 can
e-mail me as well. Our Guest of Honor is Max Allan Collins and our
Toastmaster is Parnell Hall. I am also re-writing the Bouchercon bylaws,
and anyone who wishes to me on an e-mail network for that can e-mail that
as well.

Enough for now. Nice to find this group and I hope to contribute more as
time allows.
