CLEVELAND - A 49-year-old Cleveland bar owner was critically injured and
four other people hurt early Thursday in a shootout at the Bottom's Up Cafe
at East 71st Street and Superior Avenue.
Carlton Story was in intensive care at Huron Hospital with a gunshot wound
to the hip. None of the other victims' injuries were life-threatening. In
addition to fighting to regain his health, Story will have to fight to keep
his bar open.
Ward 7 Councilman T.J. Dow said he had planned to ask the owner to
voluntarily close and surrender his liquor license. Dow said he was sorry
that Story was shot but the incident was the last straw for the night spot.
"It's been a problem since Fannie Lewis was councilperson for that ward," he
said. "I know she tried to shut it down. It has flipped owners several
times, but the same problems persist. Neighbors are always complaining about
gunfire at the bar, especially at closing time."
Oh, there's more, but ... haHA! Love it!
Bottom's up, gents!
