Sherlock Holmes from time to time rented a blood hound named Toby who figured prominently in The Sign of Four. Holmes held the dog in very high regard but was too self-possessed to actually own a pet.

The master sleuth is probably more often remembered with the great black mastiff called The Hound of the Baskervilles, hardly a "pet" of course. Put a curly haired spaniel plays an important role in one of the most amusing examples of Holmes' "Method" described in that particular story.
