I remeber that Valin declared during the second half of the
nineties that he stopped writing novels due to a lack of
success that made most od the publishers to reject his new
production (at the time).He was also announcing that he was
becoming editor of a specialist magazine (not dealing with
lit.). It's a loss, as Valin was rather good in mainstream
HB/noir novels.

My first thought when I read that description: Jonathan
Valin. His last novel, MISSING, was published in 1995, and
the only Valin books I've seen around recently are occasional
second-hand copies.
