I'm currently reading Max Decharne's Hardboiled Hollywood
(thanks for the recommendation, Colin). I ran across
this:
"In addition to producing roughly one thriller a year
throughout the 1940s, [Hughes] was also well known as a
reviewer of mystery stories for newspapers such as the New
York Herald Tribune and the Los Angeles News, and was given
an Edgar award for her work as a critic in 1950, the year
that In a Lonely Place was released."
Have her reviews ever been collected?
Mark
