Wow, such great suggestions here on contemporary hard-boiled
lit. But, you can't forget the ladies... Megan Abbott (DIE A
LITTLE and THE SONG IS YOU) and Sara Gran (COME CLOSER and
DOPE). Another standout debut this year is SHARP OBJECTS by
Gillian Flynn, it's gritty, grim and quite chilling.
Harry and Aldo, just for the record, David ("Mr. Hardboiled"
here at MBTB) still hasn't read L. A. REX. That's my pick for
best hardboiled debut this year and he's just been passing
along the recommendation. It's such a violent, relentless
read, it's tough not to love it.
One more... THE BLONDE, by Duane Swierczynski. Great!
