I think you're right. In fact, my movie tie-in copy of
Electric Sheep was retitled Blade Runner. However, there are
big differences between the two. It may be sacrilege, but I
enjoyed the movie a whole lot more. Of course, a lot of that
is just due to personal taste. I'm into hardboiled,
particularly PI books at the time I first encountered both,
not much into SF and the movie owes a whole lot more to PI
fiction (at the time, I even liked the much maligned
voiceover, but not the changed ending, because it was in the
tradition of the jaded PI voice, reminded me of Murder My
Sweet). I liked the book a whole lot more when I read it a
second time years later, when I was expecting the novel of
the movie and after I had read other Dick, but still not as
much as the movie (which I now prefer without the
narration).
