Today, I ran across a book called Dead By Popular Demand: A
Harlem Noir by Teddy Hayes. It's the second book to feature
the character Devil Barnett, a retired CIA op who now owns a
jazz club in Harlem. Apparently, he finds himself in
situations where he must use his CIA skills.
It seems the books were originally published by X Press in
the UK. I wasn't impressed by the one X Press book I read
years ago. I think it may have been called The Driver and it
was a blatant rip-off of Taxi Driver, but with a black gypsy
cab driver in the lead role. Hope these books are
better.
Anyway, the Devil Barnett books sound kind of cheesy, but I
was wondering if they were good cheesy or bad cheesy. Anyone
read any of them?
