I've enjoyed Dexter's *Deadwood* very much. It is picaresque and colorful novel full of deadpan humor, with some serious underpinning about sadness and loss. The novel is closer to modern anti-westerns like
*Little Big Man* or Gregg Matthews' *Heart Of the Country* rather than the traditional western however.
