Not exactly what happens - Haskell hits his head when he falls out of the car. Al knows he'll be accused of a murder, and won't be able to prove otherwise if he's found with the body. All of his actions that lead to his doom are all just bad dumb luck. This was fate, not his own actions sealing his doom.
