The latest news is that "Lost Stories" is at the printer. I
should have the 195-copy limited edition at the end of this
month (although there may be a delay on its slipcase). It
will be available for sale on my website.
The $24.95 trade hardcover edition will be printed next
month. However, the rumor is correct: the official
publication date of the trade hardcover edition has been
pushed back to September 1, due to distribution
entanglements. The printed copies will be shipped to the IPG
warehouse in Chicago to sit there. The book will probably be
available in many bookstores and online sites in
August.
Otto Penzler discussed "Lost Stories" in his February 14
article on Hammett in The New York Sun. He mentioned Joe
Gores' "excellent introduction to what will be a hugely
important book to those of us who think Dashiell Hammett is a
major American literary figure--which should be everyone who
has graduated from 'see Spot run.' 'Lost Stories' ...
includes 21 stories, most of which have never been seen
except by the most dedicated scholars. In addition to the
fiction, Emery provides biographical and bibliographical
commentary throughout, and the volume belongs on the shelf of
every detective fiction reader and collector."
