I recently finished reading Joe Gore's bio/novel, HAMMETT.
Enjoyed it immensely. The author includes a section at the
end describing his research and interest in DH. This makes
the novel more meaningful to know who the supporting cast
really was. During his return to the PI racket, DH is
writing/revising his various novels. Didn't Gore himself work
as a detective? I believe there was some discussion by
rara-avians on this.
