RARA-AVIS: Lionel White

OK, White wasn't a great prose stylist. But he still did some memorable books. His specialty was the "caper novel." One of his books, THE BIG CAPER, sort of gave a name to the whole subgenre. It's a good book, and the movie version isn't too bad, either. Of course his novel CLEAN BREAK was made into an even better movie, THE KILLING. One of the screenwriters on that one was Jim Thompson.
