Perversely. In the context of the crime/anti-crime definition in which it was written, a PI novel can only be classed as a crime novel if the PI is a victim or a criminal. Having an emotional attachment to his career is irrelevant. Unless his career (the thing he loves) is under threat, in which case somebody on this list will point out that the PI is a victim. Which is why I pointed it out first.
