RARA-AVIS: Historical HB

How about Loren Estleman? For his historical Detroit novels alone (EDSEL, KING OF THE CORNER, MOTOWN, WHISKEY RIVER) he should be on anyone's list of period hardboiled.

Jack Kelly's MOBTOWN, recently published.

CITY OF SHADOWS, by "James Dalton" (James Grady)

TRUE CONFESSIONS, by John Gregory Dunne (the book which Ellroy has acknowledged as the major literary influence on his post-Lloyd Hopkins career).

HOT SPRINGS, by Stephen Hunter, and its sequel, PALE HORSE COMING.
