Callan actually started life as a WONDERFUL espionage noir
series in the UK during the late sixties and early seventies.
It starred Edward Woodward and was just superb. If I remember
right, Toby Meres, (Anthony Valentine) who was actually an
upper-class amoral killer who hated Callan's guts, didn't
commit suicide but went completely insane. The character
wasn't too tightly wrapped anyway.
