So does Ellroy. And Stephen King. And, so?

But much like reading works through a Marxist critic or a feminist critic or a postmodern critical perspective, one can make the text do whatever one wants, pretty much. It gets silly. And so is trying to take all our favorites from a variety of fields and say "a tiny bit hardboiled in this paragraph from this book...."
