RARA-AVIS: House of Whacks (and Filth)

Santa left _House of Whacks_ in my stocking ... a sordid little pastiche which brings its several story-lines together in a grand (but not really credible) finale. Set in Chicago in in the early 1950s, the strands include include a couple of good-time-girls who pose for S&M pics, and their gangster boyfriends; a screenplay writer and his injured stunt-woman wife; and a bunch of pulpsters. While not quite a laugh-a-minute there were several smile-inducing passages, and some references which caused me to think "I must remember to check that out later". Worth checking out for a couple of hours diversion over the long-haul holiday.
(Today I be mostly reading Irvine Walsh's _Filth_, which is as darkly amusing as one would expect ... although C4 aired a couple of the Walsh's shorts a while ago (from Acid House?), I can't quite imagine them running _Filth_ as a six-parter with Robbie Coltrane in the lead role ... shame ...)
