As Mario points out, Chester Himes is a brilliant absurdist
in his Gravedigger Jones and Coffin Ed books.
There are also a number of recent British authors working in
the category of hardboiled absurdism -- I've particularly
enjoyed Nicholas Blincoe, James Hawes, Ken Bruen and Charles
Higson. And, of course, there's the movie Lock, Stock and Two
Smoking Barrels.
