That's the whole point. Lee Marvin was born to play the role. For the movie to be true to the book and subsequent series Porter has to be a ruthless, efficient machine. As long as the basic outline of the plot is maintained, minor plot details and differing directorial styles don't matter. If Porter is a "lippy smart ass" the movie is a dud. Mark Blumenthal
