Re: RARA-AVIS: Helm vs Bond:

any of the early James Bond books lately? I have, and the writing doesn't
hold up nearly as well as that in the Helm books. Fleming's style seems to
me far more dated than Hamilton's, almost Victorian, with paragraphs that
run on forever. I recalled the books as action-packed, but on re-reading
GOLDFINGER I discovered that the entire first half of the book was taken up
with one bridge game and one golf game. It's not the way I remembered it.
