movie of the same title which came out in 1967 was not the first Bond
movie. That was Dr. No in 1962 before Casino Royale was made.

I didn't remember correctly. You're right about date of release, but I seem
to remember there was a copyight hassle which kept Casino Royale from being
released until long after it had been made. I doubt the delay was as long as
five years though.

The first Dean Martin/Matt Helm film, The Silencers, came out in 1966,
the same year as the great spy-spoof Our Man Flint, starring one of the

coolest men alive, James Coburn.

Coburn would have been my pick for a serious Helm movie. He even looked
close to Hamilton's description of Helm as a "beanpole".
