Re: RARA-AVIS: John D. MacDonald

Tue, 10 Nov 1998 12:36:04 -0700 (MST) Since you've read all the Travis McGee novels, I'd suggest A Bullet for
Cinderella. Bullet and the first McGee novel, Deep Blue Goodbye, share a
similar theme. In some ways, reading Bullet is like reading the same
novel as Deep Blue Goodbye, but without McGee. Bullet is noirish and far
more violent. The prose is spare and to-the-point, rather than the more
meandering and florid style found in the McGee novels. (I'm guessing the
spare prose style was probably due to the dictates of Carroll, who I think
was the editor at Gold Medal at the time Bullet was written.)
