Couldn't agree with you more. One of the best, if not *the* best modern
crime novels. A true calssic and a truely one-off book. Not
surprised Ellroy was exhausted after writing it and decided he'd gone
as far as he could in that form. A truely great book. Although, come to
think of it, I'd also have to give the accolade of 'Best Modern Book' to
Eddie Bunker's "Little Boy Blue" as well - pehaps a tie with Ellroy.
They are big mate as well - if that counts for anything. Mr Bunker thinks
Ellory's "My Dark Places" is his best work and they both have very
similar mad, bad and chaotic set of childhood experiences growing
up in L.A.
