RARA-AVIS: Postman Always Rings Twice

read I should say something, huh ?

I finished a couple of weeks ago, so some details may be fuzzy.
Overall, it's a good book, but not as good as Double Imdemnity (the
book). It's interesting that the version I got was bundled with
Mildred Pierce and Double Imdemnity, since elements of both novels
appear in Postman, e.g., the female restarenteur and the insurance
angle.

I don't understand why it's considered one of the top 100 English
language novels of the 20th Century. Chandler's Big Sleep was way
more compelling than this, yet no Chandler book made that list. Why
was this on it? The writing style? The plot? The influence on later
writers? Hopefully you people will help answer these questions.
