Re: Re. RARA-AVIS: British writers

Thu, 20 Aug 1998 19:29:34 -0400 (EDT) Thanks for all of the suggestions about British authors everyone, keep
'em coming.

Ed, thanks for reminding me of Richard Allen. His skinhead books were
recently collected into three-books-each collections. I picked up the
first, but it got buried before I got around to reading it. I'll have
to dig it out.

I have picked up a few of the "Backstreets" "Youthsploitation" books,
each of which revolves around a specific musical subculture. The couple
I've read have varied in quality.

You did, however, remind me that I want to pick up the other Victor
Headley books. Only the first, Yardie, came out here, in hardback
believe it or not. (Yardley originally sold his self-xeroxed book
around London dance clubs.) Pure blaxploitation, the rise of a Jamaican
drug dealer in the "yards" of London. Should appeal to fellow fans of
Iceberg Slim, Donald Goines and/or Blaxploitation films like Superfly,
Black Caeser, etc.

Mark
