<Knowing I was running out of Scudder stories, I've picked
up a Chip
Harrison book and a Bernie Rhodenbarr book. >>
The Chip Harrison books are not so hot, though they are
still
entertaining and moderately funny (in a wry and understated
way typical
of Block). The Rhodenbarr series, on the other hand, is a
great read. As
Mark said, they are not hardboiled books but comedic capers
with
interesting characters and situations and not much violence
or gloom. I
read my first one, "The burglar who painted like Mondrian",
when I was
sick in bed, and it did me some good. Warning: this series is
addictive.
As to everything being in print, I've never seen a reliable
"complete"
list of Block books, but he must be close to a hundred
counting
everything. If anyone has such a list and wants to post it or
e-mail it
to me, I'll be thankful. Like everyone else, I'm always
looking for
unread Blocks....
Best,
MT
