And even though Block has a large number of books in print,
it isn't all
of them. As usual, the missing are the hardboiled ones.
Carrol and
Graf reprinted a few of his early paperback originals a few
years ago.
A few years before that Foul Play Press published some of the
others.
They are all pretty great, but The Girl with the Long Green
Heart (a
great con novel, by the way), Mona and Such Men Ae Dangerous
are among
the best. Deadly Honeymoon is particularly brutal, which
opens with a
virginal bride being raped in front of her husband on their
wedding
night. The rest of the book follows the couple's quest for
revenge.
The C & G books can still be found in some stores,
they're all worth
picking up.
