Well, Jerome Charyn's Manfred Coen in "Blue Eyes" comes immediately to
mind, but the primary character is killed off in that first novel of the
series -- or "quartet," if you will, since "Blue Eyes" is the first novel
of the "Isaac Quartet." Of course, Charyn keeps bringing Isaac Sidel back
in novel after novel.--Duane
