Just a personal observation from recent rereading of both: Richard Prather holds up much better than John D. In fact, Prather remains hugely entertaining and seems (obviously?) a much better stylist than John D. Sure, he calls girls tomatoes (or rather, Shell Scott does), but even that fits in with the current era, where certain stupid practices of political correctness are de facto being abandoned by young people.
