    I recently saw THE BIG CLOCK for the first time and was so pleased with Charles Laughton's performance. In most respects the movie, though fun, isn't as good as the book--it doesn't deliver the same goofy sense of strange midcentury New York as the novel does, with its scenes in Gil's bar or "personal museum") and the odd encounter with the painter. But Laughton makes up for it with his constant stroking of that hideous mustache.

    {Oh, and I'm a new poster and relatively new member of the list; I think I remember the guidelines saying I should introduce myself. I work in publishing as the publicity manager at the University of Chicago Press--proud home of Richard Stark.}
