I'm a big fan of T. T, Flynn, who used to write for Dime Detective back in the day. During the forties he turned to writing a pretty good string of westerns. Both his detective stuff and the oaters repay one's attention.
Finally saw The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada, a modern western which is both hardboiled as hell and screamingly funny. Bit of a classic, in fact.
