    Beat me to it, Sandra. Yep, Russel lives in and writes about Dundee.

    Another couple: Ray Banks (also Scottish, despite his books being set in England) and Robert Lewis (Welsh). And Nick Stone. I'm sure there are others but the PI novel is considered a no-go area in the UK by most publishers.

    Russel is Scottish, actually. And Tony Black is Scottish and his books should fall within the scope of your article. Also John Rickards wrote four or five books that were set in the US and featured a PI.
