Thank you who chimed in on the subject. My fears are obviously unjustified.

Is Steig Larrson's trilogy on topic? It has some of the darkest "real" stuff, that I've seen, not to mention a character who is just short of a superhero. Lisbeth Salander is the most interesting character I've read since Hannibal Lechter.
