    It is a pleasure to see you posting here, David. I'm midway through "Do They Know I'm Running" and think it is terrific. Also, thanks for the link to your reading group's backlist.

    I think "When The Sacred Ginmill Closes" is the ideal starting point for those new to Scudder.

    I agree with Jim Doherty that a non-McGee would be a better starting point for John D. MacDonald.

    As one who samples the 87th Precinct novels here and there but has not become obsessed with reading the series in order (which I've certainly been compelled to do by many other series), I find the McBain/Hunter "collaboration" of Candyland to be a great intro to the author.
