That teleplay is all the more amazing when you realize it was the first for both of its writers, Davids Mills and Simon. Incredible start. And it's got the first of David's many TV references to P-Funk when Clark Johnson claims it was justifiable when a suspect had beaten a former friend for leaving his Eddie Hazel album in a car to melt. > Reading the NEW YORK TIMES piece on David Mills, I noticed he'd written one of my favorite episodes of HOMICIDE: LIFE ON THE STREETS. It's in season one, where Robin Williams plays a father whose family is vacationing in Baltimore and the mother is killed. A powerful performance by Williams, and the teleplay is outstanding. Definitely worth a re-watch if you have the DVD set.
