Libraries seem to chuck books I want to read before I get around to
buying them new! Libraries used to seem to keep books forever; they must
be short of storage space.

When I see old paperbacks, especially Gold Medals, at charity stores and such, I just grab them and worry about it later. It can take time to go through them, but you have reading materials for a while. Library sales are good for hardcovers that they're getting rid of, too.
