Speaking of Quarry, THE LAST LULLABY, starring Tom Sizemore as Quarry
(although under a different name) is now out on DVD. It's based on Collins' THE LAST QUARRY.

Me, I like most of Max's own stuff. I actually like Nate Heller -- some of those "real life" solutions are pretty good. The name dropping and coincidences are occasionally overdone, but Heller is a great dark character to set loose on 20th century true crime, a sort of more self- aware Hammer, with a dash of scam artist about him at times. Not too squeaky to refuse a payoff, but too honorable to let the real bad guys skate.

And Ms. Tree is something else, a pissed-off Dick Tracy in high heels, the illegitimate daughter of Joe Friday and Mike Hammer.
