Longt-time Rare Bird Bob Randisi, founder of the Private Eye Writers of America, despite having his finger in practically every aspect of PWA, was nevertheless surprised at the Shamus Awards last Friday. Having been informed that the Shamus judges had decided that, this year, the Eye Award, PWA's Lifetime Achievement Award, would not be presented this year, was surprised to find out that he, in fact, was the recipient of the Eye, by virtue of his having created such private eye characters as New York State Racing Club Investigator Henry Po, Prizefighter-turned-PI Mile Jacoby, and former NYPD detective and current Brooklyn op Nick Delvecchio. To say nothing of having founded the PWA!
