I just wanted to let you good folks know that there's a new edition of this rather splendid book. The original 2001 edition retailed at a pricey £62. The new edition is a more affordable paperback at £18.99. It covers an astonishing array of noir and hardboiled fiction, and although it's published by an academic press (hence the steep RRP), the writing's accessible enough for most of us to be able to read it without suffering a schizoid embolism.

There's a new chapter in this edition: Literary Noir in the 21st Century, an extra 27 pages that focus on quite a few familiar names, including rara-avians Charlie Williams, Jason Starr, Vicki Hendricks and myself, as well as (among others) Peace, Woodrell, Bruen, Huston, Ray Banks, Jess Walter, Swierczynski, Anthony Neil Smith, Megan Abbott, Christa Faust, and includes considerable input from Charles Ardai.

The UK edition is out now http://www.palgrave.com/products/title.aspx?pid=252837 and I see that the Palgrave US site is showing a pub date of 9/29 (cost:
    $32.95). http://us.macmillan.com/thenoirthriller
