I just finished '9 DRAGONS', the latest Connelly (in ARC, for which I will be writing a review in October when it releases). There was a character named Lau in it who I suspect is named in homage to John Lau on this list (they have similar professions as far as I can tell, and I think from John's posts that he at least has friends in Connelly's circle). The character is named Henry, not John though, so I could be wrong.

it's news to me, but if that's what happened, I'm honored.  I know Terrill Lankford, who works with Michael Connelly

    John Lau

I should have known that Economist wasn't just being lazy stating the November release for the UK. I erroneously assumed they were being Euro-centric, and that it wouldn't be out here (Toronto) until then either. I will pick it up tomorrow for sure!
