-----Roger Torrey was one of the better hardboiled short story writers for Black Mask and such pulps as Private Detective and Street and Smith Detective Story in the 1940's. He died an early death in his 30's probably because of a drinking problem. 42 DAYS FOR MURDER may be his only novel length book. However I noticed at PulpFest in Columbus, Ohio that Black Dog Books has just published a collection of his stories. I like his work but it does vary in quality.
