It seems to me is all but impossible to cast. He will always be compared to Garner.

Matt Helm?

Easy, any damn good character actor who can create Helm from the page. Most, if not all, would be infinitely better than Dean Martin. As an actor he was a pretty decent singer and a half decent comedian, but Helm needs more than a half-decent comedian.
