    Many thanks, Gonzalo, but I have that one.  Read the IPL reprint you mention when it came out.  It's good stuff, if not in the same league as Glass Key.  I wish Brand's non-western work (which pretty much spans the pulp spectrum from spy stories to lost race fantasy) was as easy to find as his westerns.     Try Brand's The Night Flower. There's a reprint from the late '80s with an introduction by William F. Nolan. I think he even compares it to Hammett's The Glass Key.
